Have you lived the life of a himalayan nomad? For centuries the shepherds of the Tons Valley have followed the summer ritual of taking their sheep to graze on the spectacular high altitude grasslands of the Himalayas. Walk and camp with the herders on ancient shepherd trails to experience their unique lifestyle! This is our most popular signature summer itinerary!
HIGHLIGHTS:
Camping with local shepherds, learning about their unique pastoral lifestyle, learning to separate sheep from goats, making goat cheese, foraging in the jungle for edible plants, mushrooms and herbs...

Sunday, May 14
6.00 am reporting at pick-up point in Dehradun City. Drive from Dehradun to Rupin River Camp (190 kms, 7 hours). Check into our camp by afternoon for lunch. Rest and relax in the evening. Dinner by 7 pm.
Note: Client has to pay for enroute food, tea/coffee & snacks
Accommodation: High tents (twin-sharing) by the river bank and western toilets with health faucets (shared).
Monday, May 15
6.30 am breakfast. 7.30 am departure by vehicle to hike start point village Bhitri, 2 hrs away. Hike to Badaan Thatch (6 kms, 5.5 hrs, alt 10,500 ft). Packed lunch. Interact with shepherd camps all along the way.
Evening campfire and session on making goat cheese. Dinner 8 pm.
Accommodation: Tents (twin-sharing) and western toilet tents with health faucets (shared).
Tuesday, May 16
7 am breakfast. 8 am hike up to Beejay Dhar (musk deer mountain) (2.5 kms, 2.5 hrs, alt 11,500 ft). This pristine grassland is a traditional grazing area. It offers stunning views of the Supin and Rupin Valleys and a million dollar sunset view. We will meet shepherds camping here and learn about life in the high pastures. If weather is clear, dinner will be cooked in a shepherd's traditional campsite fire.
Accommodation: Tents (twin-sharing) and western toilet tents with health faucets (shared).
Wednesday, May 17
9 am breakfast. 10 am hike to Karba Campsite in Kalap village, a downhill hike (7.5 kms, 5 hrs, alt 8,500 ft). Packed lunch. Campfire and rest evening. There is a waterfall nearby to bathe.
Accommodation: Tents (twin-sharing) and western toilet tents with health faucets (shared).
Thursday, May 18
9 am breakfast. 10 am hike to Kalap village, short uphill and then downhill hike (3.5 kms, 2 hrs, alt 7,800 ft). Lunch and stay in our Kalap Homestay Building. Explore the village and learn about life in the remote village of Kalap.
Traditional cultural program at 6 pm.
Accommodation: Rooms (twin-sharing). Indian and western toilets available (shared).
Friday, May 19
6.30 am breakfast. 7 am hike to Kotgaon TTTSPL Office (4.5 kms, 3 hrs, 6000 ft). Lunch at TTTSPL Office and departure to Dehradun. ETA in Dehradun 2100 hrs. Do not book any flights on this day.
Note: Client has to pay for enroute food, tea/coffee & snacks
Itinerary ends with guests being dropped in Dehradun.
